The poet and statesman Jāmī wrote this account of the lives of over six hundred great Sufis in history. In this biographical episode, the Sufi shaykh Junayd Baghdādī (d. 910, seated on the minbar steps in this painting) held a meeting at dawn, and a crowd gathered to hear him speak.
