Novello Finotti came into early contact with the work of Rene Magritte and Giorgio de Chirico, which was a catalyst for the later development of his artistic career, as after the mid-1960s he assimilated some of the basic characteristics of surrealism in his work. Subsequently, the hippie culture, its manifestos, as well as the pervasive and liberated explosion of eroticism marked his work, which is characterized by the unexpected, irony and ambiguity as an expression of the dichotomy between art and life. Conceptual art ,Dada, Arte Povera and Surrealism were also movements that had a profound influence on him and elements of these are reflected in his works. Through unexpected thematic intersections as well as through the interweaving of disparate techniques and multiple references, he creates works, often large in scale, whose images are often seductive and appealing without being provocative.
