Copper alloyCoin. Probably Copy Nummus of House of Constantine (306-361), Fallen Horseman issue of 355-361. The obverse is restruck over a Gloria Exercitus reverse of 330-340, though the underlying figurative scene is not entirely clear: there may be a quadruped moving left where standards should be! The reverse incorporates lettering perhaps derived from the earlier obverse, in particular the letters [--]CONSTA[--]N[--]. Opposed cut-outs reduce the flan to a figure-of-eight shape recalling that of a Persian shield.Obverse description: Possibly bust right, with underlying features as noted above: a soldier holding spear with lunate ferrule, facing left, is the clearest element of these.Obverse inscription: [---]AVGReverse description: Soldier advancing left spearing fallen horseman. A letter N appears at 6 O'clock, perhaps a relict from the underlying obverse.Reverse inscription:[--]CONSTA[--]N[--], possibly a relict.Diameter: 16.2mm, Weight: 1.26gms, die axis: possibly 6
