A cast lead artefact, probably a weight, of uncertain, but probably Medieval date. In shape it is slightly more than a hemisphere. It is domed, with one side more rounded and steeper; the other side is shallower and more angled. The object has a slightly concave base with scratch and wear marks. There is an unusual off set point near the apex, but there is no iron loop. The object stands 12.6mm high, has a maximum diameter of 21.9mm and weighs 31.13 grams. It is undecorated and has a well developed creamy white-brown patina. At 31.1g, this object has the same mass as an ounce in the English Troy or Apothecary system whereby a poung was made up of 12 ounces of 31.1g. It is also equal to 20 pennyweight. See page 302 in Medieval Households by Egan.
