Lead weight. Cast discoid weight, slightly sunken in the middle of one face, probably from casting in an open mould. Patinated overall. The form may be lightly facetted to an approximately hexagonal form, though an object of malleable material might be accidentally distorted or dented through long use. The mass exceeds that of the majority of lead weights of this form, though it is paralleled by a single weight from a late medieval context in London, where it is thought to perhaps relate to a contemporary standard of weights (Egan 1998, table 15, page 317, no. 1015; a round weight of 266gms possibly representing three quarters of an English Troy pound), and by another round weight reported along with this one. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1400-1450.Diameter: 50.3mm, Thickness: 13.2mm, Weight: c.257gms.
