A square lead bullion weight of medieval date. The weight has a fleur de lis device on the front set within a lozenge. The reverse is flat. It weighs 7.4g.A very similar example is illustrated in Biggs (1992, 15). There is also a direct parallel for the form in Biggs and Withers (2000, 49; refs. 154, 155) - quatrefoil with lis. These published examples are of comparable mass to this one, which broadly equates to a quarter of a Paris troy ounce (7.4/30.5g) allowing for a 3% loss due to wear/corrosion etc (updated information provided by Robert Webley 2012).Compare HAMP-DA84C2 and SF-8F1591, which are both lighter in weight, perhaps an eighth of a Troy ounce.
