A square copper alloy sheet with a reddish brown patina. The reverse is blank. The face is decorated wih three symbols stamped on horizontally above the central axis. The symbol on the left is the symbol for 'female', the central symbol is a Y with a horizontal line across the stem, and the right hand symbol is an angular 'M'. Paul Withers, of Galata.co.uk, has identified this weights as follows: "The symbols would seem to indicate (from left to right) copper, tin, and then either gold, or less likely, an instruction that means to separate by filtration The mass is clearly intended to be a half ounce troy. It is slightly overweight"... (which can be accounted for by the adhering corrosion products) .This is therefore a weight for metallurgical materials.
