A lead alloy artefact, probably a weight, dating from the Medieval or Post-Medieval period, AD 1350 - 1700. It is flat and circular in form with a slightly bevelled outer edge. Both upper and lower surfaces are unmarked except for a narrow groove running across one side; this however is probably accidental damage, as is a small notch in the outer edge. The weight has a light grey patina. It is 39.7mm in diameter and 5.3mm thick. It weighs 48.89gm, which suggests that it may have been intended as a 1/8th pound weight under the Troy weight system.A number of similar weights are illustrated in Egan, 2010, The Medieval Household, pages 312 - 316. Compare especially number 1001, which is assigned to the second half of the fourteenth century. Compare also LIN-70F1B2.
