A late Medieval or Post Medieval discoidal uniface lead weight with a griffin, in profile, on one face. The edges of the weight are slightly sloping so that it is a trapezoidal in section. The surface has a smooth creamy/light brown coloured surface. It measures 32.55mm diameter, 5.37mm thickness and weighs 31.3g.The weight of 31.3g is almost the equivalent to a troy ounce which weighs 31.1g. The troy system was started in the 15th century. This weight probably dates to the 15th to 17th centuries. A similar weight was recorded from Norfolk, NMS-291331.
