A copper-alloy apothecaries weight, square in shape and 14mm by 14mm in size. Both faces have an apothecaries symbol and a rose. A parallel exists in Biggs (1992, 8-9), he explains that in 1618 the apothecaries broke away from the Grocers Company and were granted a royal charter, they then decided to use a weight system based on the English troy-ounce. This is an early example of an apothecarie weight as it is square, copper-alloy and has a traditional stamped symbol and rose on it, the meaning of the rose is not currently clear. This weight is therefore likely to be 17th century in date.
