Lead Post Medieval small square Apothecary weight with a blank reverse probably dating to around the 16th Century AD. On the obverse there is a series of stamped annulets and possibly traces of lettering. In 1618 the apothecaries broke away from the Grocers Company and were granted a royal charter, they then decided to use a weight system based on the English troy-ounce which from the 17th century are usually rendered in copper alloy (Biggs (1992, 8-9). This weight is therefore likely to be 16th century in date. Similar to BERK-616342, SUSS-AA0CD5 and SUR-11F892 on the PAS database. The weight is 36mm in length and 36mm in width.
